Wednesday January 28 6:30 SCOUTS--Camp Prep
Friday January 30 4:30 Meet at 6th Ave
Saturday January 31 Return Later Afternoon
This should be a great camporee with many fun events planned. The scouts should earn a lot of frost points as well! What is a frost point? For every degree below 32 F you earn a point. So if the temperature is 5 F you would earn 27 Frost Points. Lets hope for cold weather!
Karl Clark, Lorenzo's Dad, and myself will be the leaders Friday-Saturday.
Matt Post will be coming on Saturday and will take the place of Karl.
Bro. Bangeter will be fishing with us Saturday morning.
This Wednesday Brother Bangeter will discuss ice fishing gear at scouts.
It is my understanding that youth >12 but <14>
As in previous camps the troop will provide cooking gear needed including plates and such. We discussed cold weather camping at scouts last week. A few reminders
:1)Insulation underneath is a must--I recommend at least 2 foam pads
2) While you could survive in a good winter bag at -5 F very few bags would keep you warm. I recommend two sleeping bags if possible or 1 sleeping bag and a thick blanket.
3)It is essential to have dry clothes to change into to sleep in. If it is below 0 having some warm sleeping clothes is a real plus. Don't forget this includes dry socks and a winter hat.
4)Winter boots, coat, hat, gloves are a must
5)Dress in layers
6)Non-cotton items are encouraged--fleece, polypropylene, wool, nylon, polyester--all are great materials that do not hold moisture/water and will make it easier to stay warm--even if wet.
7)The night is longer than the days this time of the year--don't forget a flashlight.
8) For Gabe--who is tougher than nails and who possibly could survive a blizzard in a t-shirt and shorts--the above recommendations are just that, recommendations--for the rest of us they are essential! Looking forward to this weekend.
